Slovenia day 5 & 6

The plan was to go to Lake Bled today but we decide to have a quiet day relaxing instead. Christine finally gets to see Despicable Me 2 and we're glad we bought that 'medicinal wine' yesterday.

The "cure all" wine got rid of Elvis' swine flu.

It's Thursday and we actually do make it out of the flat today. Determined to get to visit the village of Bled we jump on the bus and head north. Luckily we have a nice bus driver who tells us we need to change buses half way and even leads us to our second bus. When we get to the village and see the lake it's shrouded in mist but it looks picturesque. We can just about see the tiny island in the middle with it's lonely church. We manage to find an English (almost) breakfast to get us fuelled for exploring and set off to find Vintgar gorge, just north of the village. It's supposed to be a beautiful walk with paths and bridges all along it however when we get to the entrance there is a ticket office which is closed and a barrier across the path with a sign that says something in Slovenian which we guessed was probably 'Closed' or 'Danger'. We've come a long way so we duck under and hope for the best. It really is a spectacular walk that criss-crosses over the river at the bottom of the gorge. The paths aren't too high but Christine isn't a fan of the slippery boards and missing handrails so she's relieved when we make it through but James was just enjoying the view too much to worry.

See, I did let go of the handrail!

After a bit of a hike back to village we set off for a walk around the lake. The intention was to get a boat out to the small island in the middle after reading that it was cheaper to get one from the far side, unfortunately no-one had written that they don't go from there in winter. We watched as boats set off from the side of the lake where we had come from feeling annoyed and a bit silly, especially since it was now going dark. Since we know we want to come back in a future summer we decide to save our pennies for another trip and make do with enjoying the sunset across the lake. We finish off the day with a well earned pint in the 'England Pub', we deserve it after all that walking but time gets away from us a bit and we have to sprint through the city to get the last train back to our flat.
