There has been an accident on the line so our train is delayed by 4 hours. We get to Verona 20 minutes after the last train to San Bonifacio, doh! We phone our host Enea who kindly offers to pick us up. Back at his house (11pm!) he offers us some pasta and wine which James gratefully accepts but i'm happy to meet my bed for the next few days.
Feeling a bit more alive we have breakfast and a good chat with Enea. He is an opera singer who loves Pink Floyd, we're going to get on great. Enea gives us a lift to the train station and stops off at a local shop to ask them to make sandwiches for us. "This is Romeo and Juliet cheese" the shopkeeper tells us, they like making fun of tourists here!
We get the train to Verona which is a beautiful city full of grand buildings and lots of culture. Unfortunately we have arrived too late and have missed the opera season, more reason to come back in the future! We do the tourist thing of visiting Juliet's balcony and Romeo's house before climbing a hill to get a great view of the city from above.
Back at Enea's we are introduced to two of his friends who have offered to cook for us, we're not going to turn down that offer! Lots of pasta, wine, music and laughter later and we're ready for bed.
