RV-ing across the USA!

It's time to pick up an RV as part of a relocation deal. We have to get the RV to Denver in 7 days and as a thank you the hire company are only charging us $1 a night - Bargain! We're a bit nervous as the one we're taking is 28ft long and sleeps 5, it sounds big! Arriving at the rental place we're given all of the instructions we need before the woman walks us through the car park, past the small ones, past the medium ones and, uh oh...past the big ones! We stop at the biggest RV in the place, it's 35ft long and sleeps 8, we're not going to lie, we pooped a little. After some confidence boosting from the RV woman James gets behind the wheel and we're off! We go back to the house to pick up our bags and our hosts are amazed at the size of it. After a few photos we say goodbye and set off with them filming us, no pressure James! After a couple of hours and no accidents we see a sign for an RV park and stop. Anchors down, slides out, electricity and water hooked up, this is easy!

This wasn't even fully extended!

thank goodness they're not fans of roundabouts in the USA.

The next day (unhooked, slides in and anchors up) we set off in glorious sunshine in search of Bryce Canyon. The drive is very scenic, especially when we drive through Zion National Park. Christine is a bit nervous as she's on the sheer drop side but James is loving it! When we get to the mile long tunnel the ranger has to block off the road for us as we have to drive through the middle of the road, luckily we emerge without any scrapes but the queue of people waiting for us to get out of the way don't look very happy...jealoooous!!

Driving into Zion National Park.

Error...will we fit?
Out of our way puny cars, we own this tunnel!

Arriving at Bryce Canyon we find a spot to park up for the night and have a few hours to explore before sunset. We take the rim trail starting at Sunrise Point and the sight is spectacular! We explore the canyon at that end for a while then it starts to snow. By the time we get to Sunset point we can barely see anything which is a shame as it's the sort of place we could stand for hours just staring out. The snow is coming down thick and fast so we run to the shelter of the RV. There are no hook ups here and we can only use the generator until 8pm, it might be a cold one tonight! The people in tents next to us are trying their best to get a fire going but despite their determination it's not going to happen. They pack up and drive off just as the snow stops and the blue sky appears, doh! We feel confident that we'll be warm enough but once it hits 8pm the heater goes off and the cold sets in, brrr! Christine notices the only blanket type item in the RV and takes down the bunk bed privacy curtain, will it help?

Beautiful.

It's nice over there.

...so it is!

James puts on his thinking beard.

Our sleep was almost as bad as the one in the tent in Yosemite! As much as we'd like to explore more of Bryce Canyon we're not equipped for the weather and the Grand Canyon is calling. Onwards to the Flintstones RV park in Bedrock!
