We are welcomed by Fred into the empty site but we've missed out on dinner at Fred's diner. We set the RV up for the night and go to the hotel across the road to eat food and steal their wifi. Unfortunately we sit next to one of the most annoying woman we have experienced, ever! Try and see how many times you can say the words "gluten free" in proper sentences in the space of one minute, I bet you won't beat her score. Added points if you can say the word "literally" at least 7 times in that same sentence. To add to our annoyance the wifi isn't working! At least it's going to be a warm night for us.
Today we're off to see the Grand Canyon in all it's glory. We arrive and find the last RV space in the car park, phew! There are a few hikes to do and we choose the Kaibab trail as it goes down into the canyon passing Ooh Arr Point and ending at Cedar point (for us anyway - the trail goes all the way down to Skeleton Point but that sounds dangerous). We go back up, it feels a lot steeper going back, and see some people on mules ahead of us, we'd rather be on our own two feet thank you! After all that hiking we need a break so we get the free shuttle bus to the rim trail and spend a few hours walking along the edge of the canyon. The sun is setting soon so we find a nice spot to settle down and watch that before going back to Bedrock which has filled up, most probably with weekend Grand Canyon visitors.
Waking up at 8am Bedrock is empty, and we thought we were having an early start! It's time to visit Bedrock City or "oh, you mean our backyard?" as the owner put it. It's a life size model of the Flintstones set and we have fun sliding down a dinosaur, getting caught by Lt. Fuzz, going to Bedrock Jail and having our hair styled in the salon.
It's time for a day of driving to get us close to Denver ready to drop the RV off. We have to drive through the Grand Canyon so we decide it'll be nice to stop at a few viewpoints along the way. Grandview point sounds like a good one so we turn into the car park. All of the RV spaces are full of cars (grrrr!) so we try to make our way out. The problem is that the exit of the car park is on a curve and cars have conveniently parked all along the curve, leaving enough room for cars to pass but not us, great! We get stuck with the front wheel in front of the curb and the back wheel behind the curb, aww mann! Thankfully a nice man takes pity on us, comes to our aid and helps us to free the back wheel and gives us the advice of just mounting the curb. It's not a low curb but we manage it and we're freee! The next few view
points have nice, normal and empty carparks so the rest of the journey is enjoyable, plus we get to fill our water bottles up with Grand Canyon spring water. Our route lets James see somewhere he's always wanted to visit and we take a scenic highway through Monument Valley, which is a sacred American Indian site. It would have been nice to stop and get a tour from an Indian but we're pressed for time. The views are spectacular and we do manage plenty of picture stops. Without realising at the time we even hit 'Forrest Gump Point'. By the time we park up for the night it's the evening so we chill out with food and a film.
